Hi everyone. Thanks for visiting my territory on the internet. It's
been very exciting the past month or so as the plans I've been making for
six months now have finally begun to manifest. I hope the fund raising efforts
turn out to be as successful as the publicity I've received.
I'm trying to raise $2000 so I can go back to school. It's a whole lot of
money, and yet it's still a drop in the river to pay for college. It's never
been more expensive to get educated, and I need help.
I graduated from Mountain Valley High School in Rumford, Maine in 2004. After
that, I headed off to art school. I was a Creative Writing major at Chester
College of New England for only two semesters before I was forced to withdraw
for financial reasons. Despite a generous writing scholarship, less generous
financial aid, and student loans that can follow me into the ground, I couldn't
afford it. So, I had to come back home, with a 3.47 GPA and a $20,000 debt.
Like many college students, home for the summer, I got a job at the grocery
store, stocking shelves and mopping aisles. I still work there now, but you'll
find me tucked away behind the pharmacy counter. I knew a long time ago that
I simply couldn't save up enough money to get back into school within a year.
I knew I'd have to do something spectacular. Even though I hope my unicycle
tour will be greatly successful, I will continue to take advantage of the
more traditional methods for college financing: Scholarships, financial aid,
loans, and my own personal piggy bank. I just need some help to get me back
into school.
In addition to working in the pharmacy, I also perform with Wingnuts Improv
all over the state of Maine, I do yardwork for people around town, and I give
unicycling and juggling lessons.
As much as I enjoyed my year at Chester College, and as well as I did, I will
not be returning there. If I did, you'd find me in this same position a year
from now. I'm planning on going to the University of Maine at Farmington in
the spring of 2007, a great school that I can afford to attend, not to mention
where I can continue to study creative writing.
It's ambitious for anyone, regardless of talent and creativity, to persue
writing in life. Fortunately, as well as at least a reasonable level of both
of those, I'm also involved with a publishing company, with which we are discussing
several writing projects. I'll post more information about that as I get it.
As always, there's more to the story, which I will surely tell later. If you
have any questions about me, college, or my unicycle tour, don't hesitate
to e-mail me at maxandhisuni [at] gmail [dot] com
Thank you all very much for your interest. In addition to money for my college
fund, I'm also looking for friendly places to help me along on the tour. Once
again, don't hesitate to e-mail me.
